I can't help but think that the (mostly women) who think men and women have very similar physical aptitudes of strength and speed missed some formative experiences that used to be pretty common- Like roughhousing, climbing trees or racing against boys in mixed sex groups.

Is that so? I drop all the way down and back up, stay as straight as possible, but don’t pause. How important is the pause?

It decreases your maximum rep count which means it's making you work harder on each rep. I was integrating that into my weigh workouts when the gyms all closed as well. Regular squat / bench sets then a few sets with lower weight with a pause at the bottom to finish the workout
