What would be the rebuttal to the claim that bureaucrats merely co-opt leftism to achieve their own goals? And how does one get to leftism is committeeism(?) from first principles?

There's a pure chaos strain of leftism that exists as well - they just are there to burn and destroy - tear down statues, burn cities, kill their hated enemies and they are supported in every way by the bureaucracy strain and both think they're using the other.

Neither are really wrong but the fundamental point is that if you're not living in the middle of a Red Terror then of course bureaucrat-types will be running things - that's one of the two possible outcomes of leftism.

To summarize my understanding then...there is almost a cyclical nature to leftism in which the chaos arm destroys to install that which inevitably leads to inequality through bureaucracies and then the chaos arm is fired up again.

This seems like a case for why the left and right need each other IF you believe the chaos arm of leftism, if wielded correctly, leads to genuine productive course-correction. Whereas the right is the check on the bureaucracy.

If you deny the above premise then I can see why leftism is unstable without authoritarianism.

Having said all this, in reading

The chaos arm doesn't lead to anything productive Evolving working social structures is hard; destroying them is pure destruction - takes generations to evolve replacements and it's not guarantee that any arise before total collapse (especially since the destruction accelerates)

Taking the head of the king is chaos, burning down your own cities is chaos - turns out cities were important for lots of reasons as was a king.
