Useless but fun speculation of the day: If you were suddenly transported back to the 12th century, what useful modern inventions could you re-create, using only then-current technology, or technologies you made from then-current technology?

Radio transmission. Calculus and a bunch of mathematical concepts (math around probability). The concept of heating water to make steam to do work. I'd say penicillin from bread mold but don't have a command of the details.

Could you actually do radio back then? I don't know if glass blowing was advanced enough for vacuum tubes (might not be necessary for AM radio, can't remember) and not sure if materials required for capacitors were available

Spark gap. If you have a windmill or waterwheel, you can generate electricity. Copper was around; you can draw copper wire and wind transformers & electromagnets. As for a receiver, galena crystals or other semiconducting metals. Easy to make an earphone.

I wasn't even thinking an earphone - just a needle that deflects but the receiver is something I'd have to memorize how to make with simple materials
