My "specific brand of lunacy" is looking in a search engine for a factual matter that is public record. I wouldn't do this on the NY Times' page because they are a publisher that makes an editorial decision not to publish that information - this apparently also applies to google

Ah, so the "you're dim" explanation is the correct one. You think that google being held liable as a *publisher* for every page they link to - theoretically every page on the internet - would have no effect. That's certainly... something.
