German U boats were sinking US merchant ships for at least two years before your citation.

They weren't sinking US merchant ships and the incident wasn't Germans attacking a US merchant ship - they had attacked a Norwegian ship, US destroyer detected German U boat - attacked.

Good, and I’m not referring to your specific instance. I’m referring to the general issue of German U boats attacking merchant vessels in supply convoys.

Did not happen before WWII. Give an example of German U boats attacking US merchant ships before WWII. Should be easy if your assertion is correct. German attacks on US merchant shipping didn't start until after 13 January 1942

The Greer was unique on that list as a US ship - the others were non-American ships with US citizens on board.
