So I'm glad they didn't say "child separation", because then I would have no good rebuttal. But luckily, they said "cages".

Many of the viral videos of "kids in cages" come from the Obama administration. It was Obama who first put kids in cages, and as far as I can tell, put the most kids in cages.pic.twitter.com/y0zXqmCFn7

The reason Obama did this wasn't because he was a bad person, but because he was dealing with a sudden flood of unaccompanied minors from Central America starting in 2014.pic.twitter.com/UC2ftUHqKy

Obama had good reasons for cages. When you get a ton of unaccompanied children suddenly showing up at a center, you need to keep them separated. Adults prey on children, older children prey on younger children. Yet, they need to also be visible at all times. QED: cages.

And it's only temporary, often only hours. A country that is humane will take care of children. They need to be processed and transferred from the border patrol that picks them up to human services that will care for them long term.

The point is that once you've decided to be intolerant of somebody else, you choose deliberate ignorance of the issues, crafting it into a form that demonizes the other side. You choose images like this to sustain outrage, rather than trying to learn the opposing side.

Same with "illegal wars". Obama was an abnormally bloodthirsty president that drone striked the shit out of places from Afghanistan to Yemen, and even American citizens, something his supporters have turned a blind eye to. Trump isn't much better.

I oppose both doing this on principle, but I may be wrong. I accept that reasonable people (especially those more knowledgeable of geopolitics) can disagree with me on this, and there might be good reasons for what both sides have been doing.

The point of this thread is that it wasn't their arguments that made you intolerant of them. Instead, you chose intolerance first, and then went looking for justification (e.g. "kids in cages") to justify that intolerance.

BTW, vote for Biden. The argument is bad: "If parents didn't want atrocities committed against them, then they shouldn't have brought their kids illegal to a place that commits atrocities against children". Deliberately separating children is an atrocity.

That's not the argument and someone who is familiar with security should understand that broadcasting "bring a child with you and get free entry" is something that will change behavior.
