The reason humans have flourished on this planet is not because we are particularly clever as individuals, but because we have discovered a way to distribute and share knowledge and wisdom in norms and institutions that can be refined and passed to each subsequent generation.
Wouldn't it be strange for a species whose edge was knowledge acquisition to be so bad at evaluating competing claims so that an obviously true claim is widely rejected because it goes against the group taboos? Men aren't well equipped to deal with that situation.
