The West should accept covid-19 defeat and move on. There was a time where we could have beaten it with good testing, border closures and lockdowns. But we didn't. We should now cancel all government restrictions related to covid-19. News sites should stop reporting it.

You are talking against the obvious! Let it go spread, many more people will get ill. Cut down the likelihood of spread, fewer deaths.

Covid-19 has the potential to kill something like +0.25% of the population if we stop all the fuss. Lockdowns are in effect killing 1-5% of the population in lost life-years, loneliness, etc. It's not worth it.

I take your point, lockdown is a bloody awful thing. But it's a disease killing a lot of people, directly. Hopefully vaccines will be available in a few months. But even without, we are looking at at lot of ill people.

Vaccines will not be available at scale in a couple of months. It will take another 9 months to get vaccines at scale, and that's being optimistic.

There's no reason to believe there will ever be an effective vaccine, tbh. I guess you could argue "we just haven't tried hard enough" but that would mean a significant scientific breakthrough. However, an ineffective vaccine could still get all the right people PAID

There are a lot of vaccines under development. Really, we should be running massive human trials of them all, in parallel and scaling up in parallel. We could vaccinate the elderly veey soon.

"Under development" means nothing. There's a reason we've never vaccinated against any coronavirus before. It's not a new phenomenon.

The reason being that there's never been a dangerous one. There are animal vaccines for corona viruses that effect them and they work. It's not an unsolvable problem.

I'm more than happy to be wrong but not holding my breath.

There will probably be a vaccine but you might wait until the end of 2021 to get it.
