The slight COVID risk of having everyone vote in person seems far less than the civil war risk of having lots of people vote by mail causing both tribes to think they won the election because harder to stop fraud, perhaps committed by foreign powers.

I think Bush v. Gore was designed to resolve the situation at hand (a candidate with fewer votes asking for selective recounts in such a way as to give him the best chance of coming out ahead). Certainly it’s an example of how we can end up in a mess with no easy resolution.

Correct: Trump and the Republicans have called on their supporters to vote twice. So, in addition to *really* wanting to suppress voting, they *really* want to commit vote fraud.
