The English crown exiling its enemies to a rich continent with no civilized population where those enemies grew rich and powerful and used that wealth and power to destroy the older systems makes a mess of the natural experiment of "which systems survived".

A truly robust "system" is composed of multiple robust subsystems. If any one of these subsystems fails it can trigger a chain reaction that topples the "system" as a whole. Patriarchy is a subsystem which, like any subsystem, relies on the others to function and survive.

To clarify a little bit, if the religion subsystem fails pretty much everything else is doomed. Christianity "worked", but it could not defend itself against progressivism, perhaps due to the failure of the military subsystem. Interlocking subsystems m8

The problem is much the opposite; after Protestantism the holiness competition was thrown wide open to all entrants who were free to mutate doctrine as they saw fit in and claim power based on their superior holiness vs proving holiness by taking a vow of silence.
