The unforgivable fact of 2020 is that white men have done most of the great things of the last 600 years. This deeply angers many resentful nonwhite people today that their ancestors didn't accomplish much. As T.S. Eliot asked: "After such knowledge, what forgiveness?"

Steve, I would mark 1765-1775 as the period of rise of Western ascendency, James Watts invented steam engine in 1765, Adam Smith wrote Wealth of Nations in 1775. These two are foundational inventions of the modern scientific age.

Calculus was stolen from India by Jesuit missionaries under Matteo Ricci and Christopher Clavius. Newton's teacher Issac Barrow directly studied in Italy under these Jesuit thieves. The knowledge lineage descends from India. The racist and bigoted west simply will not accept.

If only somebody in Indian had thought to make more than one copy of calculus so that when Matteo Ricci stole it, you would still have your own copy. But instead, Father Ricci evidently made off with the only copy of "How to Do Calculus" in the whole world.
