John McCain did want endless wars. Not sure anyone disputed this in his lifetime. McCain was once a very brave naval officer & then advocated every stupid war he could find. McCain's actual foreign policy views were, literally, indefensible by any sentient being. They were insanehttps://twitter.com/JoyVBehar/status/1303298738300088320 …

I don't normally defend John McCain, but he played a useful role in building better relations between the US and Vietnam in the 1990s. But when he ran for president in 2008, he never seemed to mention this foreign policy accomplishment.

Was in a large apolitical 'Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans' fb group & when Trump (disgracefully) went after McCain in 2015, the Moderator tried to get anti-Trump going among the members - and I knew Trump was something when so many Vets just unloaded in replies on McCain over VA

I generally steer well clear of veterans twitter/social media (be it woke vets or whatever) but whenever I looked in & McCain came up, I was always surprised at how intensely McCain was hated by so many American veterans over Iraq and VA issues, I suspect unfairly

More broadly, McCain's ideas were so consistently terrible that I almost wonder how much the high regard for McCain was not on the merits but because so many Boomer journos feel guilty for having avoided serving in Vietnam

The journo love for McCain wasn't in spite of him being a loathsome, repellent lunatic - it was because of it.
