There's actually an argument in favor of this. If you or someone you trust has first hand experience you know you're getting a good account of what actually happened and what can and can't be done.

In high school I dated a hot dumb girl, and was astonished to learn she had no grasp of analogies. When I used one in conversation she’d say “Why do you switch topics like that? It’s so confusing.” Thing is, she was probably IQ 105. Which meant *most people* were like that.
