Is everybody on this site insane? **Of course** they had to charge him. Errybody with their opposing dreams of perfect righteousness and perfect evil - when life (and humans) are messy.
The line you think is so clear is entirely made up. You don't *have to* charge someone when it's clear and obvious self-defense and you don't have to charge anyone for burning down and sacking a city. Your made up principle is a way of avoiding seeing that it's purely who/whom.

I said not one word about principles. I said that charges when people get shot appears to me to be fairly ordinary practice, and therefore not something the feds are going to get involved in - no matter how much anyone thinks they “ought”
