I don't know if there's a name for it but there's got to be one because this pattern shows up often in evolution - some behavior / program is destructive in the absence of another evolved system that keeps the first in check - both present? no problem. Lose one, big problem.
Example - ligers grow massively out of control because female lions have genes that limit fetal growth that tigers lack because male lions have genes that will cause massive fetuses. Result is that ligers are unhealithlily large.

I think by effectively silencing dissent on college campuses (where these dolts r radicalized) & within their own social groups, they kinda just end up in this negative feedback loop where they keep pushing themselves down a slippery slope with no opposing force to push back.
