Yes, M/F reproduction is different, but for any given trait, you will find overlapping distributions, usually with greater male variability. If you want to make (for example) a special forces squad, you will be able to find some women right at the edge of the distinction.
"Get captured and made a war bride" has zero overlap with "Get captured, enslaved and castrated [or just killed]"

That's not true, the Japs in wwii didn't capture all Chinese women, they killed many of them. And the Americans didn't kill Jap men, some of them even got American wives eventually. So there is some overlap in outcomes from being on the losing side in a war.

It's just that, on average, the female outcome is better, so on average, women have a greater incentive to surrender and so on average they will be more likely to do so, which is (one reason) why you don't make an army out of women.
