It's not looting, it's 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 you see. -------------------- I try not to post too much mindkilled content, but this is somewhat surprising to me; did anyone else expect people to justify looting as reparations? It sounds like an absurd strawman. And yet ...https://twitter.com/ForAmerica/status/1293247869793771521 …

If a entity is owed something, owed it for a long time, the something is of great value, and the system surrounding that entity corrupt avoid ensuring that entity receives what they're owed, what would you recommend, Roko, to maximize justice and long-term stability?

Maximizing justice ("justice" in this case, but it doesn't matter) and maximizing stability are often at odds. I would support reparations from specific living slaveowners paid to the slaves that they personally owned, and absolutely nothing more.

Slavery is immoral and counterproductive and should not exist, we must fight the slavery that exists today and redress injustices committed by specific living people. Anything beyond that is either stupidity or accelerationism.

Slavery is neither immoral nor counteproductive. "If a man will not work, he shall not eat" is a truth about the world but some men don't have this rule etched into their cognitive hardware and will take up a hunter gatherer lifestyle where they gather from other men. 1/2

For these people the prospect of a paycheck is too far past their time horizon. Either you execute these men en masse, you force them to work, you force others to work to support them or you force others to meekly submit to their predations. Those are the alternatives. 2/2

I support the idea of giving people work to do and paying them in small increments (daily, weekly). But although that's economically similar to slavery, there is a significant social and legal difference. We're more sensitive to those kinds of differences today.

As a thought experiment let's imagine someone who chooses not to show up for a weekly paycheck or even a daily paycheck because planning to go to work the next day is beyond him when it's the night before. Without money, he has to steal for a living - wut do?

There are some questions that intellectually honest non-anonymous people struggle with because of optics. None of the realistic options for such a person look pretty so I can't really endorse any of them. But certainly something compassionate is preferred. 🤷🏻‍♂️
