Your wishing that a word has a different meaning than it does is irrelevant. You don't get to decide and there's no tradition to fall back on since it's a 20th century neologism so it's on usage and usage agrees with my view of it, not yours.
The logical response is "why?" because that implies the rest of it - it's a non-concept that just means "is an enemy of progressivism" and plenty of "moderate" progressives have been finding this out in a very personal way over the last few months.
