A serious question. Doesnt IQ depend on people taking the test bothering to try? I'm becoming more skeptical that IQ as a scale, rather than rough rank, has much validity across cultures. A view I've changed in the last year.

I'm not denying predictive ability at all, but just wondering how they account for the vast number of people who dont see any point in trying on tests. The kids in Season 5 of The Wire wouldn't try on an IQ test.

Somehow people "just don't try" in exactly the proportions needed to have their resulting IQs wind up such that it predicts their life performance. Occam's butterknife. Look at the NFL wonderlic results - every player takes it.

Also predictive ability can be largely accounted for by the power of tails. A test can be good at ferreting our complete morons or geniuses but not z +-1 gradations and have great predictive power relative to guessing.

Higher criminality a marker of group cognitive deficits? Men broadly must be way stupider than women them. The male/female crime gap is the overwhelming one. My Scottish ancestors used to be violent (the residue seen in high Southern white crime rates).

Obviously men and women have different baselines for criminality but within men and women it's predictive. You're grasping at straws.
