No! Don't use tit for tat! That strategy could actually work!

Bo is half-right though. In a stand-up fight the Right will lose hard. Eg if it goes all-in on racism. Then you get the culture war equivalent of MOABs dropped on you. Baudrillard said it’s no good taking on the system on its own terms, that’s fighting it on its own terrain.

I don’t have much confidence in ‘make it clear who defends free speech’ etc. Perhaps it really comes down to being seductive, avoiding banality. The Left has a banality problem.

This response is even sadder. Bo, we have hope for you, but you are not a "reactionary," not even a "moderate" one, if you believe that we shouldn't fight fire with fire.https://twitter.com/EPoe187/status/1278651723591155715 …

I'm a "reactionary" in the sense that I want to move backward about 70 years in the culture. My point is this: If conservatives wage a cancel war, then I fear that they will sacrifice both the principle and get rolled anyway, because they don't have cultural power.

I don't know who to agree with here (I've been deliberating about this for a while), but I also feel your position is very similar to "you can't use the master's tools to dismantle the master's house".

It's more this: If the "enemy" has a huge military and you have small artillery, then trying to fight a battle on their terms is bad strategy. Fairness and principle are a way to persuade others to join your cause. They expose the other side.

"They have power and will simply ignore your efforts to apply their standards to themselves and you will annoy them" That's an actual argument against it - but that also implies that you'll show them failing to apply their own standards and persuade some fence-sitters

Your argument fails on its own terms. Either tit-for-tat is established or they don't comply and are open about who/whom and this persuades the theorized fence sitters (who simply don't exist, imo). Either way you have to actually try or they're never exposed.
