depends on the game. if you're playing a game where 4 players have a dozen leveled characters total and CHA is the reason they don't have 8 instead, CHA matters. also CHA as casting stat is often absurd when it means that your caster is also the party face

even without NPC henchmen, the core premise of 4 PCs going around doing stuff is that if they weren't all controlled by actual people who like to hang out one of them would have a high enough CHA in the group to actually keep them together.
