Your definition of "Nazi" is "has the same beliefs about race and IQ as Scott but doesn't feel sufficiently guilty about it"
The guilt is functional! We're trying to rescue (https://arbital.greaterwrong.com/p/rescue_utility?l=3y6 …) our egalitarian axiology without lying in a universe where that value function has historically been supported by lies. It's a hard problem, okay?! http://unremediatedgender.space/2020/Apr/book-review-human-diversity/#schelling-point-for-preventing-group-conflicts …
>We're trying to rescue our egalitarian axiology Why?
Symmetry intuitions! Gnon says: the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must. But whether suffering is bad, shouldn't depend on whose skull it happens to be implemented in! 1/2
It would be nice to figure out a way to arrange things such that the weak don't have to suffer. Unfortunately, people tend to delusionally underestimate how hard of an engineering problem this is, and instead go crazy and break everything. This is admittedly a problem. 2/2
The man who said "Vae victus" ultimately lost as did the side that said "the strong do what they will and the weak bear what they must". Secure power acts in its long-term best interest - egalitarian powers are incapable of that (the man making a LT play gets outflanked)
> Secure power acts in its long-term best interest Orwell had something to say about power which properly understood how its long-term best interest is nothing more than perpetuating its own security. Perhaps it's a BDSM fantasy, but I'm no longer so sure.
Orwell was writing about the psychology of men who achieve power in a post revolutionary framework; psychopathic status strivers like O'Brien.
