I’m going to try to ask this again without being called the dreaded F-word: Why don’t we do *any* of this for influenza? I grant ALL of the below -this is worse -this has no vaccine, flu does (kind of) -CDC flu-death estimates are iffy Still. Why NOT lock down for influenza?
When lockdowns were considered and started 5% IFR (and unknown LT fx) for a disease that would infect 70% of the population was possible. Flu is like .05% IFR and gets to 20% of the population. Somewhere between those projections is something serious enough for those measures.

Since all our decisions are made by distributed committees with zero individual responsibility it's impossible to say. The only real answer is because everyone who had to be on board for it to happen went along with it b/c they believed everyone else important would want it.
