What is the Herd Immunity level? As hopes dim for most places being close to old estimate of Herd Immunity at 60% ever-infected, hopes have grown that HI might be less than 60%. But what is max ever seen anywhere? 60% infected in 3 Italian towns https://www.unz.com/isteve/what-is-the-herd-immunity-rate-60-infected-in-3-italian-towns/ …pic.twitter.com/u7ITG7mCXp

Sure; but then you have to maintain the measures that reduced R0 until the disease disappears or the herd immunity number goes back up along with the R0

One possibility is we figure out the 20% of activities that cause 80% of spread, so we can go back to doing the other 80%.

Doesn’t that just put us back in the slow-boat to herd immunity?

If we stop the behavior that was causing 80% of the spread we've lowered the effective R0 so we only need to keep that up until the disease is wiped out. If we stop, then yes.

That's simply not true; 14th century Venice was more sensible than that. Diseases don't spread by magic; they spread from infected people and isolating the infected stops the spread. The issue now is that we're in a situation where the infected are impossible to identify.

Unless we turn the entire planet into a max-level haz-mat lab, we won’t obstruct any diseases. If we develop a vaccine for C19, we only open a pathway for dozens of corona, rino, and other viruses.

"open a pathway"? Does not exist.
