Yes, there's certainly a problem that politicians have few options. But let's not ignore the fact that a lot of people on the right - the right wing base - were much more concerned about "freedom" than about stopping the virus. Freedom is usually good, but there are exceptions.
I think Trump is a real leader but is under the constraints that he controls almost none of the permanent government and is only able to communicate by manipulating a hostile press. He acts as a master troll because it's the only tool to get the press to report what he wants

The right wing press except Tucker were not great either. Tucker apparently had to personally fly out to tell Trump to take it seriously. I would take Tucker as a leader over Trump by a million miles. But Tucker isn't bulletproof enough; the dementors would get him.

Who the hell knows? I've heard reports that he'd pour over contacts in his spare time when he was in business; almost all the stuff you've heard has been tailored by one person or another with some agenda in mind.
