Meh, you can't have it both ways. Continuity is a thing. If you don't want fans complaining that the character killed off in movie 1 has been resurrected in movie 2, then stop marketing movies as being in the same "universe" in order get fans of the universe to spend their $.

They don't even have continuity in the same film any more because it's hard and gets in the way of making up impactful scenes that make great clips. Movies aren't even canon for the same movie.
