If you end the measures that flatted the rate of increase you end up exactly where you were when the outbreak first started except instead of 5 or 10 imported cases you have *thousands* of cases. Transmissions will pick up right where they paused.
Couldn't do what Singapore did when it was on easy mode now do it on nightmare difficulty. Good luck.
But now there is political will at least.
No, there isn't. "Political will" at this point includes removal of Cathedral functionaries who pushed ideas like "the real danger is xenophobia" and "stigma is worse than disease" and who blocked testing during the critical periods and a replacement state religion.
Obnoxious as those were, they were hardly the reason why no measures were taken. Trump was just-a-fluer as well, let alone those who thought the economy took precedent. We're past that stage, anyway.
Of course they were. These are the people who presented the options and were charged with implementing measures. They succeeded - the transmission rate for xenophobia was super low. Trump was far from a "just a flu"er - he ended flights from China when CDC didn't want to.
And then he didn't want to implement lockdowns until he was forced to recognize the problem. Look, I think trying to see ideological patterns here is bound to fail. Most western nations screwed this up royally, whether left or right.
It's bound to fail if you're willingly blind. The left hates borders - hates the very idea of them; hates mini-borders around faces called "masks". That ideology suffuses the public health community where status is based on adherence to prog doctrine not results.pic.twitter.com/oNc8sn8DBV
