We can live without HIPAA like we can without the FDA. There are legit reasons for having your medical info be private and not sold to potential employers, landlords, etc. Just like there are legit reasons to regulate food and drugs. That doesn't mean we need the current system

And remember that without HIPAA, every landlord/employer/gym will know if you were treated for mental illness, or had an abortion, or have an STD of some kind, etc. It's not like there aren't huge industries built on collecting private info and selling it to anyone for $$
