Those people aren't "evidence based" - they're deficient in understanding what qualifies as evidence It's downstream of having a deep devotion to team progressive - they control the institutions that put out official science so it's a stealth way of only holding approved beliefs

"they control the institutions that put out official science" Any reason why you think this is the case?

I should point out that I agree that they do. But I'm wondering what your theory is for why they do.

Why I believe they do or how I think they took over?

How they took over, is probably most instructive? Or why reality based people conceded it?

The simplest illustrative example is wikipedia. The founder had a vision of a "marketplace of ideas" where people would compete as individuals to produce true and informative articles. Progressives saw it as a source of power so they tacitly agreed to support each other's edits

They then solidified that with rules about "reliable sources" and "no original research" allowing them to leverage allies doing the same thing in other institutions. If your means of adjudicating disagreements is by voting, it will always end up in control of a cohesive group.

Progressivism acts as a religion - a shared set of values that allows cooperation between members *without communication* based on common knowledge about belief. It also specifically aims at taking over institutions and installs "believe authority" as a core value to leverage it

The only question left is why "rational" people believe it and the answer is that to reject it is to stand as an open rebel. A huge group of people wish there was a sane progressivism they could follow so pretend there is one because facing that there isn't is too painful

I do know the desire for a sane progressivism. But it seems almost everything you've said could be said about any ideology, that they cohere and take over institutions to serve their ideology. Progressives took education & entertainment. Conservatives took church & judiciary.

You could say that but you'd be wrong. "Conservatives" took over the judiciary? Mean feat when the other side controls the law schools. Remind me of which progressive decisions have even been overturned - never mind which conservative impositions have been passed.

Specifically, The Federalist Society and their lists of conservative justices for appointments. Liberals have not organized at that scale yet. Now, the Senate rules have the conservatives flooding the bench at all levels, while they were effective at blocking Obama's appointees.

You could make the argument Liberals started the Judicial shenanigans with Bork though.
