The truth is that anti-war sentiment in 1940 was uncommon among white Southerners, and much more prevalent in the more progressive North, especially among Germans, Scandinavians, and Irish Catholics.

FDR got their votes so what they "supported" was irrelevant. Survey various members of the D coalition and they support this or that - doesn't matter as long as the vote bank votes. Roth is wrong but right in that the South could have acted as the vote bank for a rival.
