We paid for all the goods from China by exporting expertise in manufacturing - we no longer have a monopoly on that so the price on consulting to build factories is lower. We can't buy stuff in exchange for teaching manufacturing any more. We'll just be poor.

Own a factory? Nope, your workers took a vote and now you can't decide to reduce production or increase it or hire who you please or relocate, etc. This worked when the US was the only game in town when all the world was in ruins post WWII - not so much when it wasn't.
