A new battle about infohazards is brewing on Less Wrong! Some are arguing that a post criticizing various government agencies' response to covid-19 is an infohazard because it might reduce people's trust in government agencies.https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/h4vWsBBjASgiQ2pn6/credibility-of-the-cdc-on-sars-cov-2 …

People making that argument are making the same error the CDC and more broadly the entire credentialed establishment is making: they believe that they can use trust to create false beliefs without the result being that they burn trust to the exact degree that they succeed.

So once again LW advocates for being more wrong because it satisfies their intellectual self-pleasuring. Just make the whole site one big tribute to Plato's noble lie combined with patting themselves on the back for being so brilliant. And some, I assume, are good people.

I mean, we all know that leftism is right even when it's wrong, don't we?

I don't think this is a particularly left/right partisan issue. Well, there is one exception which is the inaccurate comments about risks from Asians which is a left-wing delusion, but that's pretty minor. The biggest issue is that the US government didn't manage to make tests.

Lots of angles on this: The left decided that ideological purity was the most important qualification for ... everything - the result is that our public health professionals write OpEds about quarantines "not working" because they all deeply believe "borders bad" 1/x

USG is utterly drained of competence at the lowest levels because we threw out civil service exams because they had "disparate impact". Why isn't there soap in airport bathrooms? Why don't US Customs ask about travel to Italy? Because the on the ground ability isn't there. 2/x

FDA blocks anyone from producing tests for corona for weeks because as an organization it's hostile to the point of insanity to anything that demonstrates private sector efficacy 3/x

This one is the most vague but the left has been growing more delusional and hostile over time as reality keeps disappointing them and they transmit this hostility from high to low. This hostility makes it impossible to take measures that rely on voluntary action. 4/x

For example, that guy who works for cnn saying that if you have corona, go to Trump rallies. We're simply not a single society because of "diversity" and the hostility makes it impossible to act as if we are. 5/5

That was a white guy though iirc. There's always the issue political belief diversity, even if you don't have the racial divides. Would be great to be in a cohesive group of like minded peoples but this might only be possible on the small scale

You do not recall correctly. That was a Pakistani Muslim.
