People making that argument are making the same error the CDC and more broadly the entire credentialed establishment is making: they believe that they can use trust to create false beliefs without the result being that they burn trust to the exact degree that they succeed.

At least it points to consistency. "LW would gain credibility by being a clearinghouse for good information" vs "This would reduce trust in USG, which is used for good and noble progressive reasons" The exact same choice being made.
