Tbh, I think the tolerant treatment of others in general was a weakness. The Greeks barely held off the Persians by barely coming together, then promptly wrecked themselves.

Genetically mediated but sure. Christian ethics are powerful and allow cooperation by larger teams of non-related men. They also feedback to a society where selection for men who are genetically inclined to cooperate with non-relatives takes place.
