The lower graph is more in line with how societies operate. Skewing the distribution on some trait means the expectation when dealing with a stranger is skewed and for a society to function beyond the smallest of scales strangers have to interact. 1/2

Drop a wallet in Japan and even if it's found by the *least* honest and conscientious person it'll be returned intact because that person expects everyone else would do so and that he'd be judged if he didn't. Do the same in a low trust society and the reverse applies. 2/2

A few responses: 1) India is unique on Earth in that the whole country is structured around endogamous mating groups so there's varying levels of trust within those groups but almost none overall 2) India is a bit more populous than Iceland - Iceland is under the pop threshold.

My objection is more that there's *no number of high IQ Nigerians* that could run a space program *in Nigeria*. They need parts, computers, buildings, janitorial services, safe neighborhoods, etc. They'd be tip of a pyramid that's disrupted long before it gets to that level. 1/2

Tech is a tool for people to solve the problems they have. Amazon is the greatest logistics company than has ever existed but only works because warehouse managers can be trusted to not steal inventory by collaborating with the people watching the systems watching the managers.
