hmm, I disagree on that one. Loving your neighbor as yourself, do unto others, etc, has clear advantages from a social reproduction standpoint, and so I would assume societies that have this code would be at an advantage over those that don't.

If you have group norms like that only then is it possible to evolve "always cooperate" - which free rides on a group that expects "cooperate but pay the cost of watching the other party for defection". You get new problems then and need new norms. 2/2
