Agreed. We cannot know the palace coup or anyone's true motives, but there are many things he could have done if a political solution were possible that haven't been or cannot be done at this time. I don't think there's any fixing the GOP, tbh. Muh cheap labor mmmmmmm.

For all we know he truly was /ourguy/ and not the feckless Boomer we have seen but got a nice 'talking to' early on. If this were the case, political option nonviable.

Even that conclusion isn't warranted. From what we've seen I conclude he's /ourguy/ and has been stymied and is fighting to gain control of enough levers of power to actually do what needs to be done.

1) Analogy: Was Pinochet /ourguy/ for Chilean rightists? Maybe, maybe not but he got to the point where he had no choice but to act as if because he became a focal point for the left. 2) Trump still seems to by trying to gather power and route around his enemies

My position on this is that Trump knows better than I do what he can accomplish and my read is that he seems to be trying to gain control of USG which is the unskippable first step rather than using USG for any (so far) impossible ends but while doing what he can for us.
