To the many of you who are subtweeting me and purposely misrepresenting this tweet, I am not suggesting that the Mets should cheat. I’m saying that winning matters and we see other franchises make great efforts to win. The Mets don’t on any level.https://twitter.com/OmarMinayaFan/status/1196799905848791040 …

The Mets have never invested in analytics, scouting, international; they’ve never taken a long view to team construction; they don’t spend commensurate with their market. They’re not trying to win, just make money. Other teams are trying to win. Cheating is bad.

The Mets are absolutely not trying to make money. A team trying to make money fights and claws for extra wins to get to 92 - that's what maximizes revenue. The Mets are run to (a) not lose money while (b) making the brain dead Wilpons feel smart and in charge.

You have no idea where the fat part of the profit curve is.

No matter where the fat part of the curve is the Mets aren't aiming for it. They overspend on bad contracts and don't spend on analytics and scouting. A competent organization could put together a team as successful as the Mets for cheaper. The Mets overpay for wins.
