But, probably the winning argument here is that women of all persuasions engage in tons of OTHER strategies to avoid rape - going out in groups, carrying knives and keys, arranging taxis home, etc. Gun use predictors seem to simply be politics, age, urban res, etc.

Question begging. You claim those behaviors are the result of women sincerely trying to avoid "rape" I claim that those behaviors are filters intended to test men for courage and propensity to ignore social convention and rules (status markers in women's minds)

It's almost tempting to ask you to test this (DON'T, actually, man). If you bum-rushed a MACE toting Chicago riot grrrl and tried to kiss her, do you think she'd actually be overcome with joy at your savage masculinity?

Ya see, there's a confound here. I'm from an ethnic / racial group that has multiple total Y chromosome replacement events in our past. Men of those groups are selected for cooperation with other men. Given that rushing women in that way doesn't come off as sincere.

But if you want to talk about more refined versions of this, then yes, it does work. Example "c'mon, let's go" at a party followed by grabbing her hand and leading her out *as an introduction*.

Most women (99%?) like dominant dudes. But, a smaller percentage (65%) have dom fantasies. Of those, only 40-45% would ever try hard-dom in reality. Of THOSE, the percent that want real life AIDS-transmitting street rapes slips toward 0%.

Still? Survey data is useless when women say they like *this* but only until *this other point* but *act as if* there is no point past which they stop liking that behavior.

To actually test this - which I might DO: I get methods ideas off the net all the time - you would have to see whether the 50% or so of women who enjoy occasional domination as per surveys or brain scans carry guns less than the 50% or so who do not. I'd bet no difference.

I've been thinking a lot about the methodological problems with evo psych and it comes down to this: The only way to actually measure this stuff is if sex actually happens. Sincere anger, fear, interest, hate, lust, all of it is meaningless compared to action.

But, sure - the pure way to test this would be running up and attacking female strangers, to see if they react with (1) joy or (2) anger. But, because (1) we all KNOW the answer and (2) the law exists, that fortunately ain't happening.

No woman would react with joy from being attacked (or even from being overwhelmed) - she's going to feel sincere anger and be driven to fight. The question is why and why did she put herself in that position in the first place.
