In honor of Moldbug coming out of public writing retirement this week, let's do some analysis of a piece from the official press; this one from Vox https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/9/23/20879611/joe-biden-hunter-biden-ukraine-corruption-prosecutor-burisma-donald-trump-whistleblower-complaint …

Piece starts out by describing how we're here. We all *know* that Trump is abusing his power by getting Ukraine to reveal Biden corruption that could only have happened with the knowledge and approval of lots of other connected insiders. But there's a sticking point

Trump (the lunatic) is asserting that the actual story is *Biden's* corruption and not his own "abuse" of power ["Abuse" is interesting in this context, no? Also note the term "conspiracy theory"] Don't worry, Vox explains - Biden was actually subjecting his son to legal danger!pic.twitter.com/W1GAnP9k3d

Ok, maybe you might have some gut reaction that says that Biden's son's behavior as described by Trump is pretty shady but Vox has you covered there too. This is actually routine - so it's ok. This conduct is bipartisan so there's no official story that condemns it.pic.twitter.com/TIeY7MfQYu

The Vox story turns on whether or not Trump's assertion that the prosecutor that Biden had fired was going to investigate the company. Their argument against this is that the same bipartisan community mentioned above wanted the prosecutor removed and Biden was just the point manpic.twitter.com/xcmojq7RVB

That same "community" that saw nothing wrong with Hunter Biden's activities? Those are the ones who wanted that prosecutor removed because he was insufficiently *anti-corruption*? Interesting. What's the evidence for their claim? Why, the spontaneous outpourings of the people!pic.twitter.com/U8dQaNdJ8q

So we have the people taking to the streets to voice approval of the int'l community's opinion. Interesting to see exactly what type of public outpouring qualifies as a public outpouring. Do Trump rallies count? Do chants of "lock her up" indicate public judgement on corruption?

The whole thing rests on dueling assertions. Trump's side asserts that Biden pressured for the firing of a prosecutor that was investigating corruption The bipartisan / international community side asserts that they wanted a tough prosecutor in his place.

How to resolve this? Well, the int'l community got their way (thankfully!) so what was the outcome? Huh, a new president who *also* promises to stamp out corruption. Did the new prosecutor do anything? Did he investigate Hunter Biden? Vox decided that was unworthy of mention.pic.twitter.com/SipWNrttOg

The whole thing is very strange without a Moldbug primer to read it. Specifically "international community" and what that means. When the "voice of the people" is valid. What is an "abuse of power" and what "corruption" is - note that Hunter's activity was not corrupt. /fin
