Taxes don't "build communities". Taxes pay people I don't like to provide services I don't want.https://twitter.com/CovfefeAnon/status/1174494811568693248 …

2/ I don't consider Little League a good thing. It's not a bad thing, mind. It's just...some other person's hobby. I'd rather have lower prices than have a tax-not-actually-a-tax that subsidizes crap I don't care about.https://twitter.com/CovfefeAnon/status/1174496277360459776?s=19 …

It's far more important than "someone else's hobby" - essential training for boys becoming men * Learning about responsibilities / cooperation * Giving a chance for talented boys to stand out in a pro-social way "The battle of Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eton"

Way I see it the ‘taxes’ Covfefe cites were something more intangible yet important than just sponsorship; patronizing locals puts you in a reciprocal, beneficial relationship w/them. Now there are none. Islands. No one knows their neighbors. ‘Good!’ one might say...but also bad.

‘I don’t wanna hafta pay a higher price to ‘be in a relationship with’ the local pharmacist if I can buy online.’ Ok, but that guy who would’ve been your local pharmacist or butcher in another timeline, whoever he is, is still living somewhere near you, in your community.

High trust equilibria don't just appear and endure by accident. We don't know precisely which is the load bearing relationship whose removal will crash the whole thing. Great that amazon exists - bad that we don't have a sovereign that would attempt to replace the relationships
