There definitely are though such things -- $trillions of them in fact -- as government subsidies for low-wage workers, in health care and other welfare benefits.

Never seemed to make sense it worked that way. China has less social safety net and pays its workers less. They don’t pay Foxconn workers 15$ an hour because their government won’t provide them “free” services.

In the long run workers get paid wages equal to marginal product because other employers will bid up their services. Part of the wages of illegals is that they get to live in a better society than the one they left behind so society is footing part of the wage bill.
