The main reason that arguing about day-to-day politics is lame is that you're accepting their frame. If you want to win, you have to be able to undermine their entire basis for believing what they do: and better, convincing your allies that the enemy is arguing too shallowly.

This is the main reason that modern "conservatism," embodied by Paul Ryan, has been such a hilarious failure. It's just leftist values with a patina of "But-but-but-but!" whining. No. Their entire foundation is wrong. Start from there, and you might have a chance.

The challenge is that modern society (and thus its politics) is so degraded that even a figure like Sargon of Akkad is branded a "reactionary" So bringing your average normie from their state to our stance is like suddenly reducing a car from 90 mph to 0: a tragic, bloody mess

I'd like a tidy answer to this challenge, but if I had it, things would already be different. The key, I think, lies in understanding both these gears, and learning where in between them you can fit without getting ground up. The pipeline is real. Learn your place within it.
