The middle class of Fussell's time atleast limited there difficulties to foreign words. Today's middle class struggles with alot of domestic words, which is propaply not a good sign. Teh grammar is awkward aswell.
I don't know if it's middle class striverdom or what but one thing I've been noticing more and more is people who constantly make errors on (near) homophones - "character *arch*" is one I see constantly
