One more time, Yang-type fears of automation causing millions of job losses are not true. Not yet. That's what Yang-types *want* to happen, but so far, despite much automation, it hasn't killed jobs. Those jobs were lost to China, India, Mexico, etc. https://qz.com/1269172/the-epic-mistake-about-manufacturing-thats-cost-americans-millions-of-jobs/ …

Why blame automation when it isn't actually driving loss of manufacturing jobs in America? Because unless you want to go full Kaczynski, there's nothing to be done about it. It's just technology, which is good, and inevitable whether you like it or not. You can't "solve" it

Elites thus blame automation BECAUSE it can't be solved. It acts as perfect cover for the true drivers of job loss—globalization—and of wage stagnation—immigration. Globalization + immigration are vital to Silicon Valley-style neoliberalism. They must be protected at all costs.

Automation isn't the cause of the decline of American manufacturing But it's not exactly globalization either - that's a symptom. Manufacturing moved to China because China has more secure property rights

What does "unionizing" actually mean though? In the US it's example of privatized communism Any company stupid enough to invest in immobile capital finds that it gets a new partner that has no concern for the long term. New auto plants in the US appear where this is impossible

It doesn't have to mean this but that's the meaning in the US - apprenticeship is a worthy institution that's been destroyed because "unions" were too useful at generating votes Democracy corrupts absolutely everything
