C'mon - this is clearly untrue After WWII the US was the only country left in the world with an intact industrial base - was this period known for massive American impoverishment?

What's the real exchange between China and the West? China provides secure property rights for manufacturing (at the cost of IP theft) and ships Western consumers the output of labor The West provides innovation, ideas and insight into people to make desirable goods

If the West disappeared tomorrow China could carry on with 2000s level tech forever - who would buy their electronics and molded plastic? Other Chinese But there's another force going on in China and as the China expert I'm interested in your opinion on it

The other force? Who's actually successfully having kids in China right now? Is reproduction as women-taste driven as it seems like it would be under the circumstances where eligible men out-number nubile women?

You only need a high-birthrate subculture if there are hostile aliens breeding in your country A China with less population that's been selected for normal middle-high income men with a spine is probably immensely more powerful than the China of today

A declining population even reinforces this - as you've explained on your blog because you're looking at a situation where there are more men looking for brides than women looking for husbands (because men prefer younger and women prefer older)
