Books finished in 2018 thread. This won't include comic books, LNs, or books that I did not read to the end.

Iron Gold by Pierce Brown. Beginning of the sequel trilogy to Red Rising. Brown started splitting viewpoints in this one, and 2/3 of the new viewpoints suck, but there's still enough of the schlocky Space Roman honor battle drama to make it worthwhile. Top-tier YA.

A Brother's Price by Wen Spencer. Western-themed secondary world where the vast majority of male births are stillborn so men are fiercely guarded by their sisters and/or harems. It tried to invert gender paradigms but nature shone through, pretty enjoyable with mediocre prose.

Fellowship of the Ring. Absolutely beautiful. These books should be treasured by our society and I fear the movies make people think they know what's going on. My LotR reread is extremely slow but worthwhile. I don't think I'll ever not be rereading it.

Tolkein wanted the books to have the right feel and so avoided using French and Latin origin words whenever possible Reading it on an e-reader was a great experience getting to look up etymologies of words while reading

Read this article on voice in LotR when you have the time https://bondwine.com/2013/01/11/the-rhetoric-of-middle-earth/ … goes in depth on how everyone talks and why
