To your point, it does seem that many in the west have more negative views of their own culture's history and traditions than they have of other societies, which I suspect is quite unique.
The west is one of most complex cultures to emerge and so has some of the most complex traditions which safeguarded against dangers that only exist in complex cultures Few people understood the consequences of throwing those traditions out and so most could only see the costs
