They needed amendments before they took power - after they took power the amendments were meaningless But it's really hard to amend the constitution and if you've got the power to amend it, you've got power Afterward, discard it - your revolution was successful

yes. that's why I maintain that the progressive amendments were a fundamental change to the republic that had preceded them. maybe not quite as big of a transformation as either Lincoln or FDR, but still huge
