It's the exemplar of a fragile intellectual defense of a position As long as you're on the author's side you won't even notice or consider opposing arguments but once that resistance breaks down even a little it all falls apart completely b/c there's no substance to it

The author increased the chances that the reader won't *consider* the opposing argument at the expense of making the reader more likely to be persuaded of the argument if he *does* consider it Does that strike anyone as a good long-term strategy?
